The Executive of the Glenboro Community Development Corporation met in the R.M. of South Cypress on October 18th 2001 at 7:30 p.m. Present were Ernestine Sepke, Darren Myers, Joan Neale, Cliff Cullen, Bob Jewsbury, Earl Malyon and Les Anderson.

A motion was made by Joan, seconded by Ernestine that the minutes be adopted as printed. Carried.

Business arising from the minutes: Cliff mentioned that although we do not have a final tally, the Vegas/Fun Fair was a success again this year. Cliff also reported that the social held on Saturday October 6th was also a success with a net profit of $1,537.00.

Treasurer’s report: Joan reported that the Chequing Account had a balance of $7,297.03 with an additional $4,000 coming in October With these funds we can now pay off the loans in full to the Village of Glenboro and RMSC. Thanks to the efforts of volunteers, the Community Hall expenses are now paid in full. Discussion was held regarding the filling of next year’s budget reports by the various committees. Cliff congratulated Ernestine on the Museum committee substantially exceeding their income budget from last year. The Millennium Chequing Account has a balance of $167.14. The Savings Account has a balance of $3,534.94 with two terms of $1,084.27 each. A motion was made by Joan, seconded by Bob that the report be adopted as read. Carried.

Correspondence: A package was received from the Provincial government regarding "The Year of the Volunteer." Discussion arose regarding how we would recognize the hard working town volunteers. It was decided that the best time to have this event would be to coincide with our Annual Meeting in the month of January, 2002..

I attended the grand opening of the Parks Route Inc. on October 5th in Carberry. Ron Lemieux, Minister of Tourism was on hand to officially open #5 highway as Manitoba’s newest tourist destination. The Parks Route itself is working on several initiatives including signage, website update, brochures and other promotional material. I am working with the Development Officer from Roblin with regards to promotion of the route. A provincial grant program has been identified and is being pursued.

The fundraising social held at the hall on Saturday, October 6th can be considered a success. Approximately $1537.00 was realized. Many thanks to Jackie and Cheryl from the Fundraising Committee, the Hall Committee and to all those who worked at the social.

I contacted Westoba Credit Union regarding the Greenbacks "Christmas Loans" program. They are willing to participate in the program again this year. Details are being worked out as we speak. Last year, nine loans were approved for a total of $7,575.00. These are dollars that may otherwise not get spent in the community. Businesses interested in the program are encouraged to give me a call a.s.a.p. at 827-2575.

Don and Linda Rankmore and myself have begun work on the new Glenboro website. A front-page 2000 program has been purchased for this purpose and so far things are progressing very well. It is our intent to have the site ready for launch on or before January of 2002. The domain name has been registered with MTS and a mailbox as well. The possibilities for community use are endless and we are very excited about this project. Local control of the site will ensure that information is updated regularly and in a timely fashion. In the meantime, the current Glenboro website can be accessed at www.wdd.cx/westman/glenboro

The South westman RHA, the Village, R.M. and CDC are all involved in the process of recruiting a doctor to fill the void that will be left once Dr. Khan departs at the end of the year. A candidate for this position has been identified and has been offered the job by the RHA. Whether or not the offer will be accepted is still up in the air. I have contacted this candidate personally, as has Dr. Swanepoel. He will notify the RHA of his decision shortly.

I have been in contact with a concrete company recently regarding the possibility of their setting up a portable plant here in Glenboro. They’re still interested but have made no permanent plans as of yet. They hope to have the time in the next few months to make a final decision. They have previewed a possible location.

A Winnipeg based bicycle club who plan to be in the area next summer for a three day excursion recently contacted me. They wanted to obtain further information on the Assiniboine-South section of our local trail that was completed this past summer. In other trail news, The Trail Association is fundraising again this year with the Community Birthday Calendars. Businesses who wish to put an ad in the publication can contact me directly at 827-2575. The calendars themselves can be ordered at the Prairie Mercantile.

Cliff Cullen and myself will be attending the MCDCA conference in Winnipeg on October 26,27 and 28,2001. Several workshops have been planned in accordance with this event.

Museum Committee: Ernestine Sepke

Our last meeting was held on October 10th,01. We discussed the history book and since there were only 79 responses out of the 450 questionnaires that were mailed out we are not sure if we can go ahead with the project. If anyone hasn’t responded please do so before November 12th. Please contact your family and friends and ask them to let one of our committee members know if they are interested.

We were going to paint the exterior of the building but the weather got too cold too fast. We will do it in the spring.

An expert from Manitoba Hydro came and surveyed the building to see how we can lower our hydro bill. With his advise we are going to put plastic on the windows and run our ceiling fans to move the air and keep the moisture down. We are also putting on a new north door.

Pie day was successful and we thank all those who donated and came to help eat the pies. We are having the craft sale which will be trays of dainties.

We received a cheque from the Bingo committee for $500.00.

Our grants are all in.

We hope to have a float in the Santa Claus parade.

Our next meeting will be held on November 14th. Everyone is welcome.

New Business:

We will again be involved in assisting the U.C.T. with the annual Christmas parade.

The date of the next meeting is Tuesday, November 13th 2001.

A motion was made by Les, seconded by Earl that we adjourn. Carried.
