The Savings Account has a balance of $3,535.70 with two terms of $1,086.94 each. A motion was made by Joan, seconded by Moray that the report be adopted as read. Carried. A letter from the Forum on Suicide Prevention was also received regarding a workshop on January 28th/02. Old Business: Sharon reported that the annual meeting plans are coming along well. We have had many generous donations for our auction. Remember to get your Scott Tournament of Hearts tickets as the draw will take place that night. Committee Reports: Properties Committee: Moray Jamieson Theatre: No Report Hall: .The properties committee did not have a meeting last month. Our next scheduled meeting will be January 23rd/02. There is still tentative plans for a social function sometime this spring. Hall rental rates for the upcoming year will remain the same. Last year was above average in regards to rentals and revenue with 23 bookings. This year for 2002 we already have 16 confirmed and another 4 unconfirmed. Our next project will be the upgrading of the tables and some of the chairs. We will be looking at a projected cost of $4000-$4500 for 10 high quality tables and possibly some chair replacements. The Hawkins Hustlers made a generous gift of a dozen tea towels for the kitchen. Agricultural Committee: Dennis Wytinck No report. Tourism Committee: Cliff Cullen Cliff welcomed the new members, Henry Booy and Tanya Drinkwater to the committee. Mercantile Committee: No Report. Les will send out surveys to the businesses asking for feedback in this area. Economic Development Officer: Darren Myers Preparations for Dr. White’s arrival continue. The community response for furnishings for the doctor’s home has been excellent. We have basically everything we need and plan on moving these items into the house this Wednesday evening. Dr. Swanepoel has graciously offered to meet Dr. White Sunday night at the airport. They will be staying the night in Winnipeg, traveling to Glenboro the following day (21st). I spoke to the Gazette re the news release and they placed an article in last weeks paper. I drafted a letter to Dr. Khan and family on behalf of the CDC thanking him for his service to our community and wishing them well. I drafted the 2002 membership letter for the CDC and Joan has copied and mailed same. It was also decided to include a survey with this years letter asking the public for their input on a number of issues. Les, Cliff and myself were able to put this together. We look forward to the response from the community. I spoke to Georgette Hutlet regarding the Heartland Gas display and invited them to attend our annual general meeting January 30th. She was more than willing to bring what promotional material they have to the AGM. I look forward to their attendance. Annual General Meeting: A reminder to the community that even though the meal this year is being supplied by the GCDC, you must pick up a meal ticket at Wallis Agencies on or before noon on Saturday, January 26th, 2002. This is being done so the caterer knows how much food to prepare for the meal. We hope to see you there. Greenbacks: This year there were a total of 5 loans for just under $3,000 - down significantly from other years. Thank-you to the Glenboro and area merchants who participated in the program. Special thanks to the Credit Union. Without their participation this program wouldn’t be possible. I have placed the 2002 Community Events list in this weeks Gazette. There is no wide circulation paper in January this year so I thought I would get it in as soon as possible. The events list is a very useful document and is an effective, low cost way to promote community activities. The website is basically ready to go. Linda and Don Rankmore and myself have been working away at it for the past three months. Our plan is to make this an interactive site full of useful community information, not just for outsiders but for locals as well. It can be as active as the community wants it to be. We will be placing the CDC monthly meeting minutes on the site for public viewing. Suggestions and comments are always welcome. The website address is: www.glenboro.com. Les and myself attended the Manitoba Community Development Corporation Association regional meeting last Thursday, January 10th, 2002 in Souris. The main topic of discussion was with regards to WEDA (Westman Economic Development Association). The future of WEDA is still up in the air and the situation is reportedly still in turmoil. The province is attempting to resolve this issue, but there is a great deal of frustration from within the region. Linda Ransom (Boissevain) has been re-elected to serve as our regional representative on the MCDCA board. The meeting ended with a presentation on community housing. Museum Committee: Ernestine Sepke We held a meat draw on January 4th and made $223.00 at it. There will be another one on February 15th if anyone is interested in going. We decided to hold a Chinese auction at the Development Corporation annual supper along with their auctions. Grace will purchase a 42 cup coffee urn for the bingo concession. We will be serving upstairs at the Glenboro Curling bonspiel again from March 21-24th. We will need help again this year. Our special display for this year will be an exhibit on the Beech sisters. Anyone who has information or pictures, etc. please call Grace or Ernestine. Our annual memberships letters have gone out. If you would like to become a member of the museum please call or send your membership to Box 385, Glenboro. Membership prices are as follows: individuals $5.00, families $10.00, businesses $25.00, Corporate $100.00. Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated. We have replaced the old north door with a new one. If anyone is interested in the old door please contact Ernestine or Brown Andrews. We have been asked to send in pictures of the museum to CHIN (The Canadian Heritage Information Network). It is in charge of the Virtual Museum of Canada. You can view their website at www.chin.gc.ca. We will be forwarding them some pictures this week. The bingo report was good. This year we have given back the $450.00 that we borrowed to get started plus we have given $500.00 to the museum, theater and hall. We still have a balance of approximately $2600.00 in the bank. December was good with an average of 55 bingo players per night. We have sent away for an operating grant again this year. It was $2294.00 last year so we are hoping we can get the same amount again this year. Our executive will stay the same again this year. They are as follows: Ernestine Sepke - Chairperson Donna Arason - Vice Chairperson Grace Olsen - Sec/treasurer Elsie Pinkerton - Bingo Chairperson Bernice Frederickson - Bingo concession Grace Olsen/Ernestine Sepke - Collection Brown Andrews/Fred Brock - Building Maintenance Joy Lalonde/Adele Brock - Grounds Maintenance/Housekeeping New Business: There was no new business.
