On May 27th twenty-two seniors from the Senior’s for Senior’s organization in Brandon toured the Glenboro area as a part of their 2002 summer bus tours. These folks enjoyed the day at the Museum, Kim Penner’s Art Gallery, Spruce Woods, The Spirit Sands and the Monastery at Holland. I would like to thank the museum committee, Kim Penner and Larry Robinson (Spirit Sands Wagon Outfitters) for their help in making this event the success that it was.

The Southwest Regional Round Table last met June 12th in Deloraine. The Round Table has contracted Dale Banman from Killarney to travel to the Nickel Days trade show in Thompson June 21st-23rd to promote the area. In order to prepare for this event I have had to update the community profile and provide additional information on such topics as major employers in the area, business opportunities, job opportunities, commercial property for sale and the like. I also had to gather up some pictures for the regional display as well as other general information to have on display at the booth. Funding for this project has come from CDC’s and Realtors in the area. This project would not have been possible on our own but collectively is realistic. Dale Banman stopped in Glenboro today and I toured him around the community. The Round Table is also proceeding with a Leakage Study to determine the dollars leaving the communities and to identify prospective community opportunities Partial funding for this project has come from the REDI program.

Southwest Trails Association for Regional Tourism update: The golf brochure package will not happen this year, nor will their plans to create a regional video as there was not enough interest in the southwest to proceed. The museum brochure package is still a possibility. START extended the deadline to June 14th and will update us shortly as to the status of this project.

I recently contacted WheatBelt Community Futures regarding the February 2003 conference and exposition that they have been promoting. The conference itself will cost approximately $295 per person and booth space for the exposition will be in the $400 range. More information regarding this event will be made available towards the end of this month.

A meeting with representatives from the Heartland Gas Initiative took place at the hall on Monday, June 3rd. The purpose of the meeting was simply to update community leaders on the progress of this project. Earl Malyon, Bill Shackel, Loren Nelson, Bob Jewsbury, Cliff Cullen and myself were in attendance.

This past Friday, Henry Fast, Rod Noel and myself attended "Trail Blaze" at the Forks in Winnipeg. This was a Trans Canada Trail promotional event promoting the 17 trail associations working on projects in Manitoba and the Trans Canada Trail itself. There were hundreds of people at this event including the Premier. Each trail group was asked to have a booth at the trade show complete with information on our project, community information, etc. This was a great event and was a wonderful way to promote the trail and the Glenboro area. I spent a considerable amount of time preparing the Glenboro display and gathering up area information to have on site. Many thanks to Madeleine at the Park for creating a local brochure for our trail and to Rod and Henry for volunteering their time to be at this event. In related news, The Glenboro/South Cypress Trail Association is having a grand opening of the Assiniboine South section of our project as well as a poker derby on Saturday, July 20th, 2002. Activities will begin around 10:00 a.m. at the winter recreation area. More details will be announced shortly.

Museum Committee: Ernestine Sepke

We received three applications for career replacement. It was a hard decision to make but we have hired Kendall Campbell for the summer. She will be starting on July 2nd. Kendall comes from Belmont and goes to school in Glenboro.

Raffle tickets are on sale from the museum committee. The draws will be advertised in the Gazette. The first prize will be drawn at the July 12th bingo.

We made $86.86 at the Town wide yard sale. Wendy started painting the outside of the museum today. We are still looking for someone to build a sports display cabinet. A donation of $500.00 from the Olafson Bros. Foundation will be put to good use. We will be having our Anniversary Tea on Saturday, June 29th. The tickets for the "Beneath the Long Grass" book will be drawn on July 1st, so get your tickets now!

We discussed having a motorcycle show at the next Town Wide Yard sale. We have to book now as most other weekends are booked. We’ve had two tours - one from Brandon with 23 seniors and the Grade 10 students from Glenboro. We are having a third tour on Thursday with 53 seniors from Winnipeg.

New Business: The CDC would like to extend a big thank you to Harry and Bernice Friesen for all the maintenance that they do at Camel Park. New garbage cans and new flags have been ordered for the park.

The date of the next meeting is Monday, September 16th, 2002 at 7:30pm.

A motion was made by Moray, seconded by Ernestine that we adjourn. Carried.
