Treasurer’s report: Joan reported that the Chequing Account has a balance of $-2.55. The Savings Account has a balance of $3,543.07 with two terms of $1,098.26 each. A motion was made by Joan, seconded by Les that the report be adopted as read. Carried. Correspondence: A thank you was received from Herman and Pearl Joel for the hanging basket. A registration form from Motivating Manitoba was received to attend a workshop on September 26-28th/02 and a questionnaire was received from the MCDC association. Committee Reports: Properties Committee: Moray Jamieson Hall: The properties committee have not met this month. The Motor Vehicle Branch and MPIC have expressed an interest in renting a portion of the hall for their purposes. We are currently discussing this matter with the Village of Glenboro and will be reporting on this matter at the next meeting. Theatre: We have had no formal meetings. However, I can report that the carpet for the isles has been installed. We received a cheque in the amount of $500 from the Glenboro and Area Foundation which will be put towards our roofing project. We are currently waiting on a reply from the Brandon Area Foundation on another grant. We will need to do a bit of community fund raising before taking on the roof renovations. Volunteer labor, fundraising and donated items (i.e. "Donate a bundle of shingles") will get us started. Should you wish to participate, contact myself or Don Foster. We are also experiencing a shortage of projectionists due to unforeseeable circumstances. If you would like to help out, or wish to know what all is involved, please contact Chris Tanasichuk, Louise Gregoire or Dan Fehr for more information. Agricultural Committee: Ed Vertz No report. Tourism Committee: Tanya Drinkwater Promotional clothing was purchased through Regent Custom Cresting for the summer of 2002. Items purchased included golf shirts, sweatshirts, fleece jackets, windshirts, summit jackets, vests, visors, hats, kid’s T-shirts, golf towels and adult T-shirts. These all come in a variety of sizes and colours with camel/Glenboro logo. Promotional pens and camel pins have been ordered and have arrived. We are waiting on some less expensive camel buttons to arrive. The promotional clothing will be for sale at the Prairie Mercantile. Patti Hacault has finished the sign and it has been put up. We are waiting on quotes for the new town entrance signs. We are also getting quotes on the cost to fix the base of Sara and the Monument. New pictures have been taken with the digital camera for a more enhanced and descriptive brochure on Glenboro and area. We hope to have a rough outline of the new brochure by the end of September for approval and then get some made up.
Economic Development Officer: Darren Myers The Southwest Regional Round Table contracted Dale Banman from Killarney to attend the Nickel Days trade show in Thompson, MB on behalf of the communities involved in the Round Table. Nickel Days was held from June 21-23. Information including community profiles, employment opportunities, business opportunities, etc. was requested from each community to have on hand at the Southwest booth. Dale was in Glenboro prior to the trade show and I toured him around the area, providing him with all pertinent information. The cost of this venture is beyond the capacity of most small towns, but working through the round table made it possible. Cliff and myself attended the Holland Homecoming parade on June 28th on behalf of the CDC. Thank you to Bill Shackel for lending us his truck to use as a float and also to Georgina Anderson for her attendance. We also attended the Baldur Homecoming parade held August 3rd with the same CDC float. Bob Clark was in Glenboro on August 5th as a part of his "Family of Love" bicycle for cancer. Bill Shackel and myself met Bob in Glenboro and forwarded some local donations to his ride. More Glenboro brochures were forwarded to Travel Manitoba earlier this summer. Travel Manitoba distributes these at their booths around the province for distribution. The Parks Route brochures were printed this summer and are ready for distribution. Advertisements were sold to all interested businesses along the route in order to help cover the cost of this venture. Each community is highlighted in some way in the brochure. Southwest Trails Association for Regional Tourism was working on a regional museum and golf brochure for the southwest. Interested communities were asked to respond earlier in the summer and the project would proceed accordingly. There was not sufficient interest to proceed at this time. These projects will be re-visited possibly early in the year. The CDC purchased an ad in the July Free press to place in the "Town and Country Icelandic Communities" edition. The cost of the ad was $107.10. Information and stories on rural Manitoba communities with Icelandic heritage was the focus. The Gaiety Theatre was the recipient of a $3500 Community Places grant in July. These funds will be put towards repairs to the roof and fire safety projects. Total project cost is approximately $7300. Other fundraising activities are being planned to cover the balance. Donations are gratefully accepted and can be made at the Village Office. CAP/YI (Community access program/Youth Initiative: I had applied for a position in April of this year however funding for summer projects was cut. Applications are now being accepted for the fall of 2002. I have re-applied and will hopefully know by the end of the month if our proposal was successful. This program provides funding to hire a youth for local community connections initiatives. The CDC has purchased an advertisement in the 2003 Southwest Travel Guide. The guide is widely distributed and is an excellent means by which to promote the area and Glenboro’s community events. Work on the Glenboro website is constant. We urge the Glenboro public to make use of this tool as it contains a tremendous amount of information, community happenings, etc. The website address is www.glenboro.com One Community Works Loans program application was distributed in August. Funds are still available in this program. See Sandra Hamilton or myself for more information.. Museum Committee: Ernestine Sepke Kendall Campbell worked out great for the summer and we were fairly busy with 4 tours. There were two from Glenboro School and two bus tours of 35 and 50 people from Winnipeg. The coordinator said that they were putting Glenboro on as a regular tour. Although not everyone signs the guestbook we have had approximately 500 people through the museum again this year. Wendy Davidson finished painting the exterior of the building in August. Our raffle tickets have brought in approximately $200 so far with our big item going to be drawn on September 18th. It is for 4 - 4 litres of oil. All the names of the winners will be posted in the paper after the draw is over. Dave Prost is working on our sports display case. Monies were donated from Glenboro Area Foundation and the Olafson Brothers. A thank you was put into the paper to all our volunteer workers who do an excellent job each year and to George Mulligan who kept our grass mowed. We are thinking of doing a homemade preserves hamper for a draw on October 18th bingo just before Halloween. It was decided that we should charge admission next year instead of a donation at the door. Adults will be $2.00, Children 6 to 18 $1.00 and 6 and under free. Family package $5.00 We have been getting quite a few orders for the history book but we need histories to put into the book. An ad was placed in the Winnipeg Free Press for the Icelandic Communities about the museum. New Business: We will start working shortly on assembling a 2005 Homecoming Committee. If you would like to volunteer please contact Cliff or Darren. The date of the next meeting is Monday, October 21st, 2002 at 7:30pm. A motion was made by Moray, seconded by Ernestine that we adjourn.
