`For more information please check out our website at www.glenboro.com.The Executive of the Glenboro Community Development Corporation met in the R.M. of South Cypress on June 16th 2003 at 7:00 p.m. Present were Ernestine Sepke, Joan Neale, Cliff Cullen, Darren Myers, Bob Jewsbury, Earl Malyon, Les Anderson, and Sharon Hamilton. A motion was made by Sharon, seconded by Ernestine that the minutes be adopted as printed. Carried. Business arising from the minutes: The Farmer’s Market is ready to go. We look forward to another successful year. The Candidate’s Debate was attended by about 40 people. Starr Circus was here on June 13th. Because the circus handed out numerous free adult tickets our proceeds were down quite considerably from the previous time they were here. Treasurer’s report: Joan reported that the Chequing Account has a balance of $1137.16. The Savings Account has a balance of $396.54 with two terms of $1,104.88 each. A motion was made by Joan and seconded by Les that the report be adopted as read. Carried. There was no new correspondence. Committee Reports: Properties Committee: Moray Jamieson Hall: No Report Theatre: Work is progressing well on the reshingling of the theatre roof and should be completed by the end of the week. Don has reported that a number of seats have received new coverings as well as an additional 20 more will be re-upholstered. Once these seats return from the upholsterers, a work bee will be formed to reinstall them as well as to apply some much needed paint to the north exterior of the building. The theatre received a cheque in the amount of $1000.00 from the proceeds from the community bingo. These funds are gratefully appreciated. We thank the bingo committee for their consideration. Camel Park & Signage: No Report Agricultural Committee: Ed Vertz No Report Tourism Committee: Tanya Drinkwater No Report Economic Development Officer: Darren Myers Letters regarding Glenboro’s 125th were recently sent out to various community groups and organizations asking for input as to what type of celebration (if any) should be staged in conjunction with this historic event. Responses to date include: - Health Auxiliary: Glenboro Hospital celebrates its’ 50th anniversary in 2005. The committee will most likely hold some type of event to mark the occasion. - Golf Club: Mortgage on the clubhouse will be retired in 2005 so they may want to host a special event of some kind. - Minor Sports: would provide manpower if need be. So fare the general feeling is that something should be staged but it does not need to be "homecoming" big. July 1st, 2005 is a Friday. Wireless High Speed Internet Project: A steering committee meeting was held May 27th to discuss the project. Giselle Lussier wrote an article for the June 10th Glenboro Gazette and this was followed up with a survey distributed through the mail. The purpose of the survey is to give all residents and business people of the Village and R.M. the opportunity to express their views on the project. The survey deadline is June 16th/03. I am hopeful that the return rate is positive. The committee will meet again soon to discuss the results and plan the next move. The Town Wide Yard Sale held May 31st was another success. There were 26 yard sales listed on the map and at least another 10 or 12 that weren’t. Luckily the weather cooperated and made the day enjoyable for all. The Community Works Loans Program extension has been signed and forwarded to the province for their consideration. This basically extends the terms of the agreement for another 5 years. To date, 5 loans have been approved locally since 1998. CKLQ Radio promotion: The GCDC has committed to a half-spot ad for 2003. The Golf Course opted out of the program this year but Up the Creek Outfitters has replaced them. The ads will run from mid June to mid August at a cost of $372.00 I have completed a Southwest Trails Association for Regional Tourism update on behalf of Glenboro/South Cypress. It dealt mainly with coming events, updating tourist information and attractions in the area. I have also forwarded coming events from October 2003-May 2004 to Travel Manitoba for inclusion in their coming events guide. The History Book Committee has requested an update of the GCDC from 1980 to present. Shilo Family Day is being held on Saturday, June 28th/03 at the base. A trade show will be held in conjunction with this event and displayers are welcome to attend. The cost for booth space is $100.00. I have registered the CDC for this event as it should be a wonderful opportunity to showcase the area. It is a one-day event being held from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Museum Committee: Ernestine Sepke The committee welcomes Carol Fulford. We served at Isabel Sutherland’s birthday tea. Expenses were $93.41 with a profit of $178.09. It was suggested that the donation boxes be made available to the public. Even with the entry fee people may want to make a donation and seeing the box perhaps would encourage them to do so. All present agreed to put the boxes up again. We are working on an article for the paper to try and stimulate the residents into getting their family histories in to the committee. There is a history book meeting on June 25th at 7:00pm at the museum to set up a booth at the fair to sell books. Two hour shifts starting at 8:00am till 6:00pm will be needed. Joy made a motion that all museum directors and summer student Kendall Campbell will be able to sign the charitable donations receipts. We are working on some fund raisers and fun days for the end of June and through the summer. One is a 50/50 draw to be made on Labour Day weekend. The other is a raffle on a doll that Donna Arason has donated to us that will be drawn at the Craft Sale. The Museum committee would like everyone to come out to help celebrate our 3rd anniversary on June 26th from 11:30 to 1:30. We will be selling a hamburger, cake and coffee or lemonade at the cost of $3.00. Hope to see you there. On June 28th we are having a Fun Day at the museum with rope making, wool carding, homemade ice cream, three legged races, potato sack races and a bike decoration contest. There will be prizes and fun for all. Watch for posters as they will be out soon. Call 827-2105 or 827-2444 for information. New Business: The "Donate A Bundle" of shingles for the theatre is still on. Anyone who donates to this will be entered into a draw for free movie passes. The draw will take place at the CDC’s September 15th meeting. The date of the next meeting is Monday, September 15th, 2003 at 7:00pm. A motion was made by Les, seconded by Ernestine that we adjourn. Carried. |
