The Executive of the Glenboro Community Development Corporation met in the R.M. of South Cypress on March 17th, 2003 at 7:00 p.m. Present were Ernestine Sepke, Joan Neale, Cliff Cullen, Darren Myers, Ed Vertz, Les Anderson, Tanya Drinkwater, Bob Jewsbury, Earl Malyon, Glen Tosh and Sharon Hamilton.

It was noted that the secretary’s finger must have frozen onto the 0 key when typing the previous minutes as the donation from the Glenboro Area Foundation was $350.00 not $3000.00 as printed.

A motion was made by Sharon, seconded by Ernestine that the minutes be adopted with the correction. Carried.

There was no new business arising from the minutes.

The board welcomed Glen Tosh as their new member.

Treasurer’s report: Joan reported that the Chequing Account has a balance of $1,339.24. The Savings Account has a balance of $3,395.54 with two terms of $1,103.06 each. A motion was made by Joan and seconded by Les that the report be adopted as read. Carried.

Economic Development Officer: Darren Myers

The province is offering all CDC’s the option to extend the Community Works Loans program for another 5 years. Daryl Stroh, Intergovernmental Affairs, will be meeting with the loans committee on March 24th to formalize the new agreements. There has been some recent interest in the program. Two applications were distributed this past month.

The Glenboro/South Cypress Trail Association has applied to the Summer Career Placements program for funds to hire a summer student again in 2003. The Trail Association is also pursuing the acquisition of a rough-cut mower for use on the trail. Grant possibilities are being explored. Many thanks to Don Foster for auditing the Trail books again this year. A letter was received from the German High Command stating that they are unable to proceed with the Assiniboine River bridge project due to its enormity. They have never been involved with a project of this magnitude. The Manitoba Recreational Trails Association is hosting a conference at Elkhorn Resort May 9-11th. A representative from our local trail group will be attending.

Rural Forum is being held April 24 -26th at the Keystone Centre in Brandon. The CDC will attend again this year with the Glenboro display in hand. The display is being altered somewhat in preparation for the upcoming event. Local businesses that would like their brochures displayed at the Glenboro booth can contact me at the office anytime at 827-2575. Earl Malyon and myself will be attending for the entire 3 days.

Myna Cryderman from Boissevain recently informed me that her organization is hosting the Canadian Championships in Competitive Trail and Endurance as well as the International Arabian Horse Association National Championships July 30 - August 2nd, 2004 at Spruce Woods Park. This will be the first time that the IAHA championship has ever been held in Canada. This well be a very large event to say the least and will bring 400-500 people into the area for several days. An event program will be prepared and advertising from local businesses will be solicited.

Museum Committee: Ernestine Sepke

Five, 3 foot spot lights and three more florescent lights were installed in the basement. We also had a light cut into our upstairs display case. The cost was approximately $785.00 Robbie Hallgrimson spray painted the beamed ceiling in the basement. It took three coats and cost $849.00. Our sports case is finished and Dave Prost made a beautiful job. Some of his cost is still unknown. The car show we were pursuing is unavailable for May 31st due to prior commitments but we are looking into having local enthusiasts bring their cars out. All of the food is ready for the bonspiel. We have made up 100 lbs of hamburger into 414 burgers. Come out and have some fun from Mar 27-30th. The officers will stay the same as last year due to a shortage of members. Career Placement is being sent in and also the operating grant has been mailed. The meat draws for the museum will be on May 2nd and June 13 th. Please come out and support us. We are in the process of applying for a grant for the front doors of the museum.

New Business: A motion was made by Earl and seconded by Ernestine to host the Starr Circus this year. The dates will be announced next month. The R.M. has lottery grants available again this year. As the theatre needs to replace 20 seats at a cost of $25.00 per seat they will apply for a grant. Plans are coming together for the "Sisters of the Holy Rock". They will be in Glenboro on April 3/2004 so mark that date on your calendar.

The date of the next meeting is Monday, April 21st, 2003 at 7:00pm.

A motion was made by Earl, seconded by Les that we adjourn. Carried.
