Committee Reports: Properties Committee: Moray Jamieson Hall: The properties committee held a meeting on April 29/03. We have a number of bookings for 2003, as well as several for 2004. Discussion was held regarding the invoicing of accounts as well as the need to streamline and have a better method of communication between hall management and renters. A hall report was drafted (re: type of function, mix, number of cups used, etc.) and will be used by the hall manager. This is to be completed following a function. This report will be given to the person in charge of bookings (Sandra) and an invoice will be sent out. Sandra will receive the revenue and it will be passed on to our CDC treasurer. Misc. items discussed: - a locking cover for the thermostat has been ordered - committee member Dan will be issued a hall key to check on the hall on a regular basis - the hall received a plaque from the Canadian Forces thanking the town of Glenboro for the use of our facilities and the hospitality shown towards them. This plaque will be mounted on the west wall by our framed print from the Mitchell’s. - Received a request from the graduation committee requiring a podium and a riser platform. This will be discussed at our next meeting with the grads. - Need to check on the coolers (re: sometimes freezing items in fridge). Will have Hill’s Plumbing look into this. - We would like to thank the Hawkins Hustlers for their generous donation of $500 towards the purchase of our new tables. - Our properties committee is in need of some new members for new ideas and projects. If interested, talk to Moray or Cliff. - Blood donor clinic (sponsored by UCT) will be held on Monday, June 9/03 Theatre: The first phase of renovations to the theatre will begin in the very near future. Phase One will encompass chimney replacement and new roofing shingles. The materials are here now and have been paid for. The total cost of the project, which also includes fire protection and upgrading in the furnace area as well as the lobby, is approximately $7500.00. Don reported that he received a cheque in the amount of $1000.00 from Community Places, the first portion of the $3500.00 grant applied for. With cash on hand, the money from the grant and the donations we have received through the "Donate a Bundle of Shingles" fund-raiser, we now have sufficient funds to cover Phase One. Anyone still wishing to donate a $20.00 bundle of shingles please contact Don Foster. A tax receipt can also be issued. The theatre also received a grant in the amount of $500.00 from the R.M. of South Cypress. These funds will be used to repair and recover approximately 20 seats. A work party will be organized to remove the seats as well as to give the exterior north end of the building a coat of paint. Anyone wishing to help out, give Don a call for your very own personal paintbrush! We would like to welcome our two new concession workers, Chantel Fillion and Lindsey Craig. Projectionists Chris Tanasichuk, Louise Gregoire and Dan Fehr as well as new personal, Ernestine Sepke and Michelle Hanson are doing a fine job of operating the projectors. Camel Park & Signage: The cement base of our Sara the Camel statue received some needed repairs today, by the way of PAR stucco. A new cement parging was needed to stop the base from deteriorating any further. Total cost of this project was $750.00. Our entrance signs to Glenboro appear to be in good condition, however are in need of upgrading. The sign west of town needs to be straightened, the base reinforced and a new facelift. I will have an assessment of the sign north on #5 highway, as well as have some estimates for our next meeting. Agricultural Committee: Ed Vertz No Report Tourism Committee: Tanya Drinkwater No Report Economic Development Officer: Darren Myers The SouthWest Regional Round Table held a two-day competitive intelligence workshop in Brandon April 22nd and April 23rd. The focus of the workshop was to gain skills in gathering information when attempting to attract new business ventures to the area, as well as how to gain knowledge of your competitors. The Round Table met in regular session May 7th in Killarney. The next major project involves the Youth Inclusion initiative. It has been proven that youth are more apt to remain/return to their home community if they are involved in local initiatives and decision making as young adults. This project will see a number of survey tools devised that individual communities may use to further this concept. Funding for this project was made available through the Federal Government CARCI program. Rural Forum was held April 24-26th at the Keystone Centre in Brandon. Earl Malyon and myself attended the entire 3 day event. The Glenboro booth was extremely busy during this time. This is an excellent opportunity to promote the area and all we have to offer. Many thanks to Earl and Carol-Lynn, Ed Vertz and Joan Neale for volunteering their time to work a shift at the booth as well as the Glenboro Golf Course and Spruce Woods Park for donating prizes and give aways. Shilo Family Day is being held on Saturday, June 28th, 2003 at the base. A trade show will be held in conjunction with this event and displayers are welcome to attend. I attended a South West Economic Development Officer’s meeting in Brandon on May 12th. Community development professionals from around the region were in attendance and several government departments were represented. It is headed up under the museum but the bingo committee has decided to help other community groups other than the museum. So far the bingo committee has donated to the museum, legion, theatre and minor sports. The only money the museum will receive from the bingos is from the concession. We take in an average of $40.00 every two weeks. Our operating grant hasn’t come in yet. Our museum is in need of new members for ideas and helpers.
