If anyone is interested in these please contact Darren. We had a few responses on the 125th anniversary celebration. Everyone thinks that something should be done. A committee will be formed shortly to organize this event. Volunteers are welcome! We welcomed Lorna Hamilton to our meeting. Lorna reported that the "Farmer’s Market" went over well. We need more vendors for next year. The general consensus of the attendees was that there would be a big void without it. Lorna is looking into a "new and improved" market next year featuring a flea market as well. Tables are only $3.00. Call Lorna with any ideas you may have. Cliff thanked her for all of her hard work this year. Treasurer’s report: Joan reported that the Chequing Account has a balance of $5,612.73. The Savings Account has a balance of $296.54. A trade show including community displays was held in conjunction with this event. The GCDC was on hand with the Glenboro display to promote the area. Considering the impact that Shilo has on the region, our attendance there is quite important. Many thanks to Cliff and Les for working a shift at the booth and to Sharon Hamilton and Carol Lynn Malyon for making camel cookies to distribute. I attended a South West Regional Round Table meeting in Deloraine on July 9th. The Round Table is currently involved in a youth inclusion project, a project that will equally benefit the entire membership. The purpose of the project is to determine what rural areas can and must do in order to maintain our youth population. Hopefully the end result will be a number of strategies to deal with this issue. The High Speed Internet Steering Committee met July 17th at the R.M. office. An announcement from the Federal Government regarding approved projects is expected in late fall/early winter. The survey responses were discussed and the overwhelming majority of respondents approve of the project. As a result, the committee decided that the GCDC spearhead this project on behalf of the Glenboro area. A letter to major area businesses and users will be sent out in the very near future. A follow up article will also be placed in the Gazette soliciting contributions from potential users and others willing to help make this project a reality. I am in the process of applying for a grant to help fund the project and have received $1,585.00 in funds from the Community Connections program to offset program costs. Museum Committee: Ernestine Sepke We decided to put a new door in the front of the museum. It will be installed around the middle of September. We held a hamburger and cake day on June 26th. The hamburger was donated by Ruth & Ray Taft and the cakes were donated by the museum committee. Thank you to Ray and Ruth for the successful day. It was nice to see such a big crowd. Thanks to all. On June 28th we did an Activity Day for the children. We had a rope demonstration and each child made a length of rope for their own to take home . Ellen Rawlings showed them how to card wool and we explained how ice cream was made. There were hot-dogs and homemade ice cream and soda pop for lunch after which we had three legged races, potato sack races and a bicycle decorating contest. We are going to see if we can find some pictures to put in the paper of our first children’s activity day. It was nice to see so many children there. Our admissions are down quite a bit from last year and we are not sure if it was on account of a hot summer or because they had to pay admission. We are deciding if we should go back to donations at the door. ANONYMOUS DONOR - A set of Winnie the Pooh pictures were left on our doorstep. It would be nice to know who left them so we could thank the person. We have decided to do Ponnukokers (Icelandic Pancakes) for the craft fair this year. If there is anyone out there willing to help please give Donna Arason or Ernestine a call. We drew for our 50/50 draw. Terry Miller of Stockton won $46.50. Thanks to all that participated. We do have a charity number now so people donating to the museum will be able to have a tax receipt. We would also like to thank George Mulligan for mowing our lawn again this year. New Business: The Fun Fair is being held again this year on October 3rd. The CDC needs ideas for fund-raisers. Anyone with ideas please contact a board member. The date of the next meeting is Monday, October 20th, 2003 at 7:00pm. A motion was made by Ernestine, seconded by Moray that we adjourn. Carried.
