EXECUTIVE MEETING

MINUTES

Monday, March 21, 2005

Present: Glen Tosh, Carol Fulford, Darren Myers, Bob Jewsbury, Earl Malyon, Ed Vertz, Tanya Drinkwater, Joan Neale, Moray Jamieson

  1. Called to order by Chairman – Glen Tosh at 7:05 pm.
  2. Minutes of the last meeting were circulated and it was MOVED by Joan that the minutes be adopted as read. SECONDED by Earl. CARRIED.
  3. Old Business
    1. Rodeo Update – They have elected to go the Saturday Evening July 2nd and Sunday July 3rd. The stock contractor is confirmed and they have sent out 35 copies of the Sponsor’s package. They have 6 sponsors confirmed at $200 and 1 at $100.
    2. Town Wide Customer Appreciation Day – Tabled to Tourism and Promotion Committee
    3. 125th Celebration – Darren distributed a draft agenda. We will be spending $3,000 on fireworks with $2,500 coming from sponsors and the other $500 coming from the CDC. There will be a supper on the Friday night and we will have an opening ceremonies at that time. Glen will send out invites to dignitaries.
    4. CDC Restructuring –Glen and Darren are still recruiting.
    5. Day Care Update – Darren has a draft survey and will send to Sandra Smith, who works for the RHA, for advice.
    6. Home Town Manitoba Program – Darren and Agnes met with the Village Council and it was agreed that we should apply for a grant to upgrade the cenotaph. The application has been sent in.
  4. Treasurer’s Report – Joan distributed her report. We currently have $10,000 I in the bank and the History Book has paid back $1,300 of their accounts receivable. Memberships are up $200 from last year. Joan MOVED the adoption of the treasurer’s report and it was SECONDED by Tanya.
  5. Correspondence – Letter regarding Bio-Diesel information seminar. It was agreed that Eddie could find anybody to go it might be a worthwhile seminar to hear.
  6. Committee Reports
    1. Properties – Curling Club and CDC will be jointly running the beer gardens and social. Tent will be set up Thursday night and he needs to send them a cheque right away. The band is confirmed and their next meeting is April 7, 2005.
    2. Agriculture – Ag Days was held today and there were more producers this year but less exhibitors. It was unfortunate but the main speaker had to cancel out at the last minute due to federal commitments. There is opportunity to be a collection point for the new Dauphin Slaughter House. Eddie will try to get more information.
    3. Tourism – No Report.
    4. Museum –Committee will be working the bonspiel and they have two more meat draws.
    5. Mercantile/Promotions – No committee in place at this time.
    6. Economic Development – The I-Net Link project has had a major problem in getting equipment from the States. Installations are happening again now and people can register at the Municipal Office.
  7. New Business
  8. 7.1. Report from the Council Meetings – Glen reported that he met with both the RM and Village Council and gave them an update on the progress of the changes that we proposed to our committee structure. They seemed supportive and it seems like they have no intentions of making changes to the CDC.

    7.2 Budget – It was MOVED by Ed that we request a 2% increase in our annual operating budget from the RM and Village. SECONDED by Moray. CARRIED.

    7.3 Cellular Phone Tower – It was agreed that we need a cell tower in the Glenboro area. It was agreed that Darren/Glen would draft a letter and petition to be circulated around town.

    7.4 Athlete of the Year – The idea was brought up that maybe Glenboro should have an Athlete of the Year award and a picture of the recipient would be hung on a new "wall of fame" at the Hall. After some discussion it was thought that maybe a volunteer of the year or Resident of Distinction might be a better title. We agreed to table this till the next meeting and every one was to bring their thoughts to the next meeting.

    7.5. Winnipeg Free Press Story – Sunday’s Winnipeg Free Press had a story about a lady from Winkler who was assisting immigrants in moving to the area. It was agreed that Moray would look into this more and potentially invite her to our next meeting.
