Correspondence A letter was received from The Tiger Hills Festival Committee requesting our sponsorship for the Rose Bowl. After some discussion it was decided that we would once again sponsor the award. Joan - Bob 6. Committee Reports 6.1 Theatre: Since the last report, the oil furnace acted up again, this time resulting in a chimney backup filling the building with soot. Chris has been in touch with Cancade Fire Restorations as to the proper cleaning of building contents. Currently, the furnace is working, but the problem has not yet been resolved. The theatre area is in dire need of a major cleanup and a coat of paint. The lobby was completed last year with new wall board, paint & flooring, and we are hoping a thorough cleaning of all areas will suffice. If not, the lobby will have to be repainted. The last time the main theatre area was painted was approximately 30 years ago and it shows. The ceiling and walls are in need of fresh paint to cover the water stains left prior to the new shingles installed a number of years ago, and to cover over what time has left. A meeting will be held with the Theatre Committee to address these problems. At this point, we are unsure as to any upgrading of equipment, until the building itself has been taken care of. HALL: Held meeting Jan 10/06 It was decided to accept the bid received from Accent Furnishings for the purchase of new tables & chairs. The purchase will consist of: A. 19 new 60” round tables, 9 new 30” x 96” rectangular tables that are a very close match to our current 10 tables (6-60” round & 4 – 32” x 96” rectangular) purchased five year ago. B. 300 new one piece molded chairs. This number is down from the original 350 first considered and of the approx. 290 chairs current in stock; we will keep 50 of the best wood chairs. This will give us a total of 350 for hall seating. C. Two round table dollies with a capacity to store 8 tables ea. As well as one chair dolly to enable to move stacks of chairs with ease. D. 10 new sets of heavy gauge metal table legs for replacement on our existing 10 tables. E. Total cost of the project will be $21,500, down from our first initial cost of $28,000. This, of course, must meet with the approval of the CDC executive before proceeding. - Further discussion will decide whether to liquidate the balance of the chairs or place them in storage for now. Our current number of 26 old tables will be kept and used for auctions and the possibility of rentals will also be discussed at a later date. - Fund raising will come from hall-sponsored functions, donations, and the community auction. Last week, we discovered that one of the geothermal heat pumps at the hall was not working. Paradise Plumbing were called, giving us the bad news that a compressor had failed, resulting in a “Dirty Burn”, the worst type of compressor failure. It apparently poisons the rest of the furnace with an acidic smoke and if not properly cleaned can result in the failure of the other furnace. The system will need to be filtered several times using “filter kits”. On top of this bad news, was the fact that the warranty had expired 6 months ago, as we had opted for a 5 year warranty vs. a 10 year at the time of our millennium project. However, Paradise worked out a deal with the manufacturer at getting a new compressor at half the cost. Total repairs will still be in the $2000-$2500 range. We hope to have repairs completed within the next 7 – 14 days. The one furnace will be able to handle heating demand. There was also a discovery of water damage to some of the wallboard in the furnace room due to either condensation from the ducts or the possibility of a leaky roof around the plenum cover on the roof. Steve B. has been contacted and will give us an assessment. A work bee will be held, (Date to be announced) to thoroughly clean building, replace water damaged ceiling tiles and refinish wood dance floor. CAMEL PARK & SIGNAGE: no report Submitted by Moray Jamieson 6.2 Agriculture No report 6.3 Tourism No report 6.4 Museum Charlie Skanderberg is going to look at the sports case and put a base under it so if we get water on the floor again it will dry better. Carol will ask Rolly Grenier, Greg Cline, Ken Cullen & Truelove Building Supplies to check the roof on the Museum & give us an estimate on shingles or tin so we can apply for the Community places Grant. The Development Corporation given us $150 to attend a course in Neepawa to learn more about preserving artifacts. The Annual report will be in the paper. Submitted by Carol Fulford. 6.5 Mercantile/Promotions No report 6.6 Economic Development The Greenbacks Loan Program gave out five loans totaling $4,430.00 The judging of the Christmas Lights took place on Monday, December 12th, 2005.
