Correspondence
A letter was received from the Town Square Committee requesting financial
assistance in putting in a water supply to the Town Square.
They have successfully applied for a Hometown Manitoba Grant to help with
this expense. The
Town Square Committee should proceed with the installation of their water supply
and any expenses will be run through the GCDC.
The grant monies, when received, will be paid to the GCDC and the
Development Corp. will incur any extra costs that the grant does not cover.
The Lieutenant Governor's Winter Festival that is held annually in
Brandon is exploring the idea of moving some of the pavilions into the
surrounding rural towns. The GCDC
would be interested in obtaining more information on this.
Chris will contact Tom Keep to ask if he would like to make a
presentation to the CDC and Councils. 6.

Properties –
Recently received two cheques in the amount of $1000 each from the RBC
Foundation to be directed to the Gaiety Theatre and the Kinsmen Hall.
These donations are much appreciated and will be put towards the
theatre’s operating costs & upgrading and to pay down the recently
purchased tables & chairs for the Hall. Theatre:
The theatre is holding it’s own with the usual up’s and down’s in
attendance.
Points of consideration:

- electric furnace upgrade
- need to install eaves roughing on west side of building
-need to improve the appearance of the west exterior wall
-Chris is working on a community services application to work a bingo. Hall: New tables & chairs in place.

maximize room for social events.

Economic Development –
The Community auction was a huge success. I have heard nothing but positive comments.
Not only did we raise a lot of money; it seems everyone has a good time
doing it.
I attended Discover Manitoba on April 8th & 9th
in Winnipeg. To help
cover costs, we shared a booth with Carberry.
Thank you to the Glenboro Golf Club and Dusty Mile Outfitters for
providing prize passes.
I have not received any final numbers of those who passed through the
doors but I felt the crowd was just about right to be able to take the time to
how them brochures of our area and answer any questions they might have had.
Rural Forum was held on April 28th & 29th in
Brandon. Thank you to Carol Lynn
Malyon for helping to bake “Camel Cookies” and to Earl for helping to work
the booth. Again, thank you to the
Golf Club and Dusty Mile Outfitters for prizes.
We also shared this booth with Carberry, as it seems we are promoting the
same area and the Spruce Woods Provincial Park. The
town Wide Yard Sale is being held this Saturday and hopefully the weather
co-operates to make it an enjoyable day for everyone.
