Committee Reports 6.1
Properties
Hall - The Hall committee met on October 10/06.
We were fortunate enough to be drawn to operate two bingos to help
finance our purchase of tables & chairs from this past spring.
The committee would like to thank the following individuals for assisting us
with working our Bingos in Oct & Nov at McPhillips Street Station:
Dolores Ehnes (2), Joyce Brindley (2), Evelyn Ginter, Coreen Rutherford, Corrine
Gillis, Randy Wallis, Carol Fulford & her sister, Michelle Hanson, Daryl
& Charlene Godard, Kathy & Kevin Vrooman, Curt & Trina Wytinck,
Arlene Jamieson (2) & Moray Jamieson. It
is hard for people to commit to such an event but is well worth the effort as it
is a huge injection of funds to community projects in our town.
Thank you, & if you are called upon to work a bingo from another
committee or project, give it a second thought & help our your community.
The
New years Dance has been shelved for this year. However we do plan on a social
function in late February that, if successful, should net the hall enough to pay
the balance owing on the tables & chairs. Hall
committee is still looking into liability coverage for hall events with other
insurance companies. As well we will discuss with other public facilities in our
area that fall under municipal or village properties as to their plans. We
wish Debbie Biles a speedy recovery & to let everyone know that the hall
committee members will be looking after prep & cleaning of the hall until
Debbie is ready to return. Theatre:
The theatre have now installed all new seating (w/plenty of room between
rows), along with the existing fir flooring had been totally stripped &
varnished by Home Depot. Open house
will be Sun Dec 10th 6:30 - 7:30 pm. Camel
Park & Signage: New sign is in place along #2 highway on the west
entrance into Glenboro. Submitted

Promotion/Tourism
Ernestine Sepke & Carol Fulford attended a S.T.A.R.T. packaging meeting in
Brandon on Wed Nov. 22/06 and found out the prices for putting a package
together to bring more people into our town and area.
It was discussed and decided that they would put something together and
see if it was feasible. 6.4

There will be a meeting on Dec 20th at 6:30 pm 6.5
Economic Development
I am in the process of working on new brochures and souvenirs for the 2007
season. I am exploring and pricing
out some new items that I think will be of interest to the local population and
the tourists alike. I
have received notice that there will be no Trade Show at Rural Forum this spring
and Discover Manitoba has been cancelled as well.
I have been sent a list of smaller trade shows that will be taking place
this coming spring. The
Parks Route Association met with Mr. Lemieux in Carberry on Nov. 9th
2006. Some work is scheduled for
Highway 5 this year. The same day,
I was also at a meeting in Treherne with the Prairie Spirit School Division. This meeting was in regards to their new initiative to
attract foreign students to our school division.
This program is not to be confused with the Foreign Student Exchange
Program, it operates entirely different. At
this point in time, they have many students wishing to attend school in our
area. They are in need of host
families. If anyone is interested
in finding out what is involved to be a host family, please let me know or call
the Prairie Spirit School Division Office. The
Southwest Regional Round Table has begun surveys with businesses in the area.
We feel that existing firms are the best prospect for future growth and
development. The purpose of this
program is to determine how we can help them grow.
The first phase of this project is concentrated on businesses that are
directly involved with the Agriculture sector.
A second phase will concentrate on Main street businesses. Submitted
