Glenboro Community Development Corporation

Minutes of April 18th, 2007

Held at the Municipal/Village Office

 

Present:      Curtis Wytinck, Chris Tanasichuk, Joan Fallis, Earl Malyon, Moray Jamieson,  and Ernestine Sepke  

Regrets:            Carol Fulford and Rob Gudnason

1.            Meeting was called to order at 7:05pm.

2.            Approval of Minutes from March 21st, 2007.             Chris/Earl        Carried

3.            Approval of Treasurer's Report as presented.            Joan/Earl          Carried

4.         Old Business: 

4.1       Town Signs: We are still waiting approval for the sight of the second sign. A motion was made to purchase solar lights for the Glenboro signs.  Curtis/Chris Carried

4.2            Walking Path:  Waiting to hear from Hometown Manitoba.

4.3       Review of the Round Table Report: A general discussion was held regarding where we can best serve our community.

4.4       Moving of the "Events" sign: It was decided, that while the sign by the highway serves its purpose, the sign would better remind citizens of upcoming events if relocated downtown.  Upon consultation with Village maintenance staff, it was decided to move the sign to the old Esso lot on the corner of Broadway and Railway.  It was also discussed that as it has been 7 years since our homecoming it would be appropriate if all committees and organizations take a look at their signs and see if they need upgrading or painting to allow the visitors of Glenboro to see them better.

6.            Committee Reports 

6.1            Properties:

Hall: No report

Theatre: The $4000 received from Home Depot will greatly help with the insulation and siding project.

Camel Park & Signage: No report at this time 

6.2            Museum:    Our meetings have been changed for the summer to the third Tues of the month. The Museum Committee made out ok with the bonspiel even though the attendance for rinks was down. Thank you to all that helped us out.  We would like to thank all those who helped out with the April 7th bingo in Winnipeg and as we have one more on May 6th, 2007, if there is anyone that can also assist, please contact Carol Fulford at 827-2357 or Chris Tanasichuk at 827-2575. Your help is much appreciated.  Thank you again. 

6.3            Business and Industry: No report 

6.4            Economic Development Officer: All has been discussed under Old or New Business 

7.         New Business: 

7.1 Training assistance for tradespeople was discussed and Mel Ham is working on a training assistance program.

7.2 Advertising. The GCDC will place an ad in the 2007 Destination Manitoba booklet.  Curtis/ Moray  Carried. 

A discussion was held on the Highway #2 road closure.  The Highways dept. is being pressured to change the wording on the signs.  The GCDC will look into the cost of TV advertising for this year.

7.3 White Rock for Hall and Sign. The GCDC will purchase white rock for the Community Hall parking lot and for the base of the town sign.  Earl/Moray

Curtis and Chris are to look into pricing.
