We were asked if we were interested and it was decided that yes we are
interested. 5.2
Glenboro School: A letter of
apology was received from the Grad Committee for the bad behaviour and damages
to the Hall during the Grad party. 5.3
Received a thank you from Harvey & Isabel Hamilton for the flowers
for their Anniversary. 5.4
The Flag Shop: The flags at the Camel are not lasting.
It is getting quite costly to keep replacing them.
It was decided that although the flags look very nice at Camel Park, if
they deteriorate over the winter, replacement would depend on funds available.
They will definitely be replaced over the May – October period. 6.
Committee Reports 6.1
Properties: Hall: No report Theatre: Over all, attendance has been very good over the summer
months. This is because of the new
sound system, comfortable seating and clean atmosphere.
We know that some think the new sound system is too loud but that is the
way the movie industry works these days. All
speakers are joined together and to turn down the volume would result in not
being able to hear the dialogue. The contract for repairing the west wall,
insulating the attic, west and north walls and the siding of the west and north
walls was awarded to Cullen Construction. The damage to the foundation of the west wall was unknown
until the dirt was removed revealing not only damage to the wall itself but also
the cement. The wall was repaired
and the cement replaced. The attic,
north and west walls were insulated to Manitoba Hydro standards, a steel exit
door was installed in the west wall on the stage, and this door is an actual
fire exit door equipped with panic hardware.
The west and north walls were then covered with metal siding. Even with the Community Places Grant we
received, due to the unknown damage to the foundation, this project could never
have been completed if it were not for the donations made through the Glenboro
Village Office totaling in excess of $3000.00.
We are so pleased that others value this building as much as the theatre
committee does not only with money donations but also with the volunteer hours
that were involved with this project. As a final note, we lost count of how
many times someone said how wonderful Ken and his crew were to work with and we
thank them for their extra time and caring that they put into this job.
Camel Park & Signage:
No report 6.2
Museum: Just to highlight.
We thank Dayna Prost for an excellent job well done this summer.
The museum is now closed for the season.
If anyone would like to see it please call one of us and we would be
happy to show you through.
We are still waiting for our money to come through from the Summer
Placement grant.
Hamburger days went well and we do want to thank all our supporters,
volunteer help, as well as George Mulligan for his beautiful music and
drive-way.
As you may have noticed we had the roof done and Cullen Construction did
an excellent job.
We served at a pre-wedding party for Peter Sawatzky and Debbie Leece.
Brent hill installed a new Sand Point so the water is much better.
We are doing our usual porgies for the Craft Fair this year.
The Museum made a donation to the Raystone in Memory of Harry Lalonde.
We have also been asked to serve at the Nurses get together at the CE
Building on Dec. 9th, 07 6.3
Business and Industry: Meeting
in 2 weeks 6.4
Economic Development Officer:
On July 14th, Ernestine and I travelled to the Peace Gardens
to take part in their 75th Anniversary.
The booths were well attended and the weather was perfect.
It was sad to see the devastation caused by the rain in the weeks prior
to the event. All in all it was a good day and worth the registration fee.
My office has changed location at the Glenboro School.
I am now located in the front wing, southwest corner.
This was the perfect opportunity to move the Community Computer to a
location where it is also accessible in the evenings and on weekends.
The computer is located at the Spruce Woods Motel and available for use
by anyone over the age of 18.
Over the month of August, a lot of my time was spent at the theatre
project, gathering volunteers and helping out in any way needed.
The Glenboro Mugs and Postcards have been distributed around town for
sale.
Registration forms have been sent for Ernestine & I to attend a
workshop on “Making the Most of your Web Presence” which will be held in
Brandon on October 24th, 2007. 7.
New Business 7.1 Peter Sawatzky:
Stan Turnbull asked if we should recognize Peter’s work in our town
somehow. We are looking into it. 7.2 Sara’s Birthday:
Motion was made that Joan, Rob & Moray be on the committee to do
preliminary planning. Earl/Curtis 8.
Date of Next Meeting: Wednesday, Oct 24th, 2007 at
7:00pm 9.
Adjournment: Meeting was adjourned at 8:00 pm.
