Minutes of Jan. 30th /08

Held at the RM Office

 

Present:                        Curtis Wytinck, Chris Tanasichuk, Joan Fallis, Ernestine Sepke 

                                    Rob Gudnason, Moray Jamieson, and Carol Fulford

1.                               Meeting was called to order at 7:10 pm.

2.            Approval of Minutes from Nov. 21st, 2007.     Rob / Joan     Carried

3.            Approval of Treasurer's Report as presented.            Joan / Moray  Carried

      

4.         Old Business

 

4.1            Town Signs: Still awaiting word from MTS regarding site for the second sign.

4.2            Review of the Round Table Report: Tabled.

4.3            Training Assistance: A draft contract form has been drawn up for the Training Assistance Program.  Details will be discussed at a further meeting.  There have been a few people expressing interest in taking the E M Training or wanting more information.   

4.4            Peter Sawatzky Commission: Tabled.

4.5             Public Washrooms:  It was decided to explore the idea of portable toilets for this coming summer season.

 

5.            Correspondence 

5.1       Letter from Children’s Learning Centre:  Motion made of one time donation of $150 for start up costs. Rob/Moray Carried

5.2       Letter from Tiger hills Festival Committee: The GCDC will once again donate $100 towards the Rose Bowl.

 

6.         New Business 

6.1       Annual General Meeting: The annual general meeting will be held on March 5th, 2008 at the community hall.   

6.2       Spring/Summer projects: 

            Painting Sara: That the GCDC apply for a Hometown Manitoba Grant to assist with the cost of the painting.  Joan/Rob carried

            Hall roof: The roof needs re-shingling.  A Community Places Grant will be filled out to assist with the cost.

            Walking Trail:  That the benches and garbage containers are set up and the trail be opened.

    

6.3            Residence of Distinction Award:  Three nominations were received.  After a lengthy discussion a decision was made and the award will be given out at the General Meeting on March 5th, 2008.

  

 

7.            Committee Reports 

7.1             Properties:

Hall:   The hall committee will be meeting very soon to discuss the roofing project.  We did meet with Community Places regarding a grant for the roof, some type of flooring over the concrete, lighting & better drainage around the building.  We currently have approx $400 in our roofing fund with the possibility of some inclusion through an insurance claim back in the spring in regards to roof repair & water damage.  We hope to have estimates by next meeting.

 Theatre:   Monthly progress was discussed

 Camel Park & Signage:   Sara needs painting.

 

7.2            Museum:  Wednesday January 16, the museum committee catered a luncheon for the Manitoba Nurses Union general meeting, held in the C. E. building. The luncheon was a great success, with thanks to all those who volunteered in the preparation, serving and clean up. We are looking into replacing the windows in the museum.  Community places were out to take a look.

 

7.3            Business and Industry:  Monthly progress was discussed

 

            7.4            Economic Development Officer:  Christmas Lighting contest winners:

                        1st place: Grace Olsen, 2nd place: (a tie) Bob & Olivia Jewsbury, Alison Davidson & Andrew Smith, 3rd place: Fred & Fern Stevens

                        Parks Route Inc. will be having a booth at the Winter Fair and Glenboro will be  responsible for having a representative at the booth for 2 days.

                        The South-West Regional Round Table has finalized their Business Retention and Expansion Survey for the area.  We would like to thank all the Business’ that participated and if anyone would like to look over the results, there is a copy at the RM office.
