Glenboro Community Development Corporation

Minutes of Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Held at the Glenboro Community Hall

 

Present:            Curtis Wytinck, Ernestine Sepke, Earl Malyon, Wayne Davidson, Penny Johnson, Chris Tanasichuk 

Regrets:            Moray Jamieson 

Guests:             Louise Hutton, Connie Newman from Age Friendly Manitoba and Lorelie Mitchell  

1.                  Meeting was called to order 7:00 pm.  

2.         Age Friendly Manitoba presentation:  Louise Hutton and Connie Newman presented an overview of the initiative.  It was decided that the GCDC will proceed with this project and a Community Consultation meeting will be set for Tuesday, June 1st, 2010 at the Community Hall. 

3.            Approval of Minutes from January 19th, 2010            Earl/Wayne                    Carried 

4.            Approval of the Treasurer’s Report as presented.            Chris/Wayne             Carried             

5.            Correspondence

            5.1       A letter was received from the Village of Glenboro giving us the opportunity to spearhead the “Caboose” project.  The time frame attached to this opportunity is one year.

            5.2       Thank you card from Jurgen and Shelly Schwarz of Uptown Auto for our assistance in helping to get the business started. 

6.         Old Business 

6.1            Annual General Meeting: A general discussion was held on the content and length of the AGM.  A few suggestions were made that could be implemented next year.

6.2            Town Signs: A replacement “Churches of Glenboro” sign has been ordered and will be placed in the flower bed at the north end of Broadway Street.  A Hometown Manitoba grant application has been submitted to help offset the cost. 

7.         New Business 

            7.1       “Welcome Wagon”: A discussion was held on what is available now to welcome newcomers to the area and how we may or may not help with this project.

            7.2       Housing: The issue of exploring the possibility of the construction of more housing/apartments will be given to the Business & Industry Committee.                         

7.3       Summer Student:  The GCDC will submit a Green Team Application to hire a student to help out with different outdoor maintenance jobs that need to be done by various groups in Glenboro.   

8.            Committee Reports 

            8.1            Properties:

Hall – A Community Places grant has been submitted to add a storage unit onto the south side of the Hall and to replace the interior paneling of the hall with drywall.

Theatre – The washroom project is complete and the siding project on the front “south” of the building will begin shortly.  A Hometown Manitoba grant has been submitted to assist with new signage.           

            8.2            Business and Industry:

                        Glenboro Ag Day has been set for Wednesday, March 24th, 2010. 

8.3       Museum – The Museum will once again be running the upstairs canteen at the Curling Bonspiel.  A grant application has been submitted for the painting of the gable ends of the building, a new sign and new eaves trough.  A work party will soon be preparing the Museum for the summer season and the Homecoming. 

8.4       Manitoba Homecoming 2010: 

            Committees are being formed with members from the six groups involved.  Our next meeting will be the beginning of April.
