January 30, 2002 The 11th annual meeting of the Glenboro Community Development Corporation was called to order by chairperson Cliff Cullen on January 30th, 2002. Greetings were brought from Mayor Bill Shackel on behalf of the Village of Glenboro and Reeve Earl Malyon brought greetings from the R.M. of South Cypress. Betty Christie introduced and welcomed the newcomers to Glenboro and area. There were 25 new households mentioned this year. Approximately 160 people sat down to a delicious supper supplied by the Spruce Woods Inn. Pastor Harry Friesen said the blessing. A few words were spoken by our new doctor, Dr. White. Joan Neale presented the financial report with a cash balance of $7,563.24 and accounts receivable of $3,742.98. There are total current assets of $11,306.00 and current liabilities of $2,283.56. There was a surplus for the year of $16,541.40 which offsets the beginning deficit of $7,518.74 resulting in an ending surplus of $9,022.86. The beginning deficit included a $27,000.00 debt on the hall renovation which was paid off entirely during the year with fundraising and grants along with a 33% increase in hall rent. The museum fundraised extensively for a total of $13,282.27 revenue against operating and renovation expenses of $12,971.59. Moray Jamieson presented the Properties committee annual report. The Glenboro Gaiety Theatre experienced the usual ups and downs in attendance holding its own again this past year. In March, a community work bee was held with the lobby receiving new flooring and a coat of paint. We currently have a $1000 in our building fund, thanks to the generous donations from the Hawkins Hustlers and the Museum bingo. We hope to raise more this year so we can proceed with the carpet aisle replacement and roof improvements. I would like to thank the committee workers of the theatre, namely Don Foster, Dan Fehr, Chris Tanasichuk, Louise Gregoire and the concession workers for committing their time and energy for the continued operation of the theatre, weekend after weekend. Without these individuals our theatre would cease to operate. Our biggest news this past year on the hall was the repayment of the outstanding debt to the town and R.M. for the balance owing on the Millennium building project. The total project was $155,000 with a short fall of $10,000. Now that the hall is free and clear, we would like to move into a couple of projects, namely upgrading the tables and chairs as well as implementing a fire lane/loading zone along the east side of the building. As chairman of the Properties Committee I would once again like to thank all those who donated their time, money and resources in helping with the renovations of our hall. Cliff Cullen gave the Chairman’s report. He thanked the
Gazette for their support throughout the year. It was mentioned again that the
CDC was financially diligent. The major project of $155,000 has been paid back
in full. He mentioned that the museum was open from May 19th - September 3rd and
was also open another 25 days by appointment. Over 600 people have signed the
guest book. The museum committee have renovated the basement, held a fashion
show and now are going to instigate the reprinting of the history book with a
new book coming for the 2005 anniversary. The Tourism committee were responsible
for new signage along the highway, flag poles being installed at Sara the Camel
park and a new business directory sign. The person from the tourist booth has
been relocated to the Museum. They are continuing to promote Glenboro by
printing travel brochures and attending displays in various cities. Agriculture
is an important part of our economy. Farmers are being encouraged to diversify.
The Mercantile committee held Camel Days and were part of the Green Backs
program. We will be revisiting these programs this year to see if they will
continue. Your input is requested. The Community Works Program currently have 5
loans out. Darren Meyers is 1/2 time Development Officer and 1/2 time Recreation
Director. He is a great resource of information and is always happy to help. The evening continued with the Chinese, Silent and Live auctions. Everyone enjoyed the evening. The Scott Tournament of Hearts tickets were won by Bruce Anderson who generously donated them back to the CDC to be auctioned off. They were purchased by Randy Wallis for $650.00. |
