Provincial Firefighters Bonspiel Coming to Glenboro

The Glenboro South Cypress Fire Department and the Glenboro Curling Club are proud to be hosting the 51st Annual Manitoba Fire Fighters Curling Championships from February 4th – 7th, 2010 at the Glenboro Arena & Curling Club. With the cooperation of the Glenboro Arena, the hockey ice will be transformed and the event will boast 6 sheets of curling ice.

The bonspiel will commence on Thursday when approximately 25 teams will be bagpiped in during the opening ceremonies. In addition to great curling, the participants will enjoy a banquet evening on Friday, traditional Fire Fighters breakfast on Saturday morning and some planned entertainment for Saturday evening. The closing ceremonies will take place on Sunday evening. There will be three prize events and an A and B event championship. The winners of the event will represent Manitoba at the national championship in Regina, Saskatchewan in March of 2010.

To qualify as a participant, the member must presently be volunteering, employed or retired from an active Fire Department and have held a Fire Fighter distinction for at least 2 years. The committee encourages our rural Fire Departments to enter teams and show their support for this occasion. The deadline for entries is January 15, 2010.

Accommodations in the area have been reserved, sponsors are signing on, and participants are already registering. If you wish to be a part of this event by participating, sponsoring, providing accommodations, or volunteering, please contact Robert Gudnason @ 827-2646 (email riverrob@mts.net) or Cliff Cullen @ 827-2046 (email cliff.cullen@leg.gov.mb.ca) . It is an honor to host this championship, and with community support, we will ensure the success of this event. Visit the Manitoba Fire Fighters Curling Association website @ www.mffca.ca
