These scammers call claiming that they are related to the person, by saying that they are a grandchild or possibly a son, They then let the person know that they have been in some sort of accident, sometimes saying that it was with a pregnant woman. Next they will try to convince the victim on the phone to pay large amounts of money to have their “relative” either released from jail, to cover the damages of the accident or both. These scammers will then send someone to the victims home to get the money asked for.
Police are saying that this same type of scam has happened before, back in January, but to be aware that these scammers are back in the Brandon Area.
Remember these scammers are very good at what they do and have a way of making you believe them. Please be careful and aware, especially the 55+ community.
