Minutes of the seventh regular meeting of the 2006/2007 Council of the Village of Glenboro held in the Village/Municipal Council Chambers at 618 Railway Avenue Glenboro, Manitoba on Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. Present
at the meeting: Mayor William R. Shackel, Councillors Loren H. Nelson, Robert G.
Jewsbury, Steve R. Bjornson, Robert J. Gudnason, Chief Administrative Officer
Eric C. Plaetinck and Assistant Chief Administrative Officer Darren J. Myers. Mayor William R. Shackel, presiding,
called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. RESOLVED
that the minutes of the last regular meeting of Council held on Tuesday, April
10, 2007 be taken as read and approved, all statutory requirements having been
fulfilled. “carried”
RESOLVED that the Council of the
Village of Glenboro give second and third reading to By-Law #701 (vis-à-vis
Year 2007 School and Municipal Property Tax Levy). “carried”
RESOLVED that the Council of the Village of Glenboro ratify the seasonal
employment of Derek Robidoux of Glenboro, Manitoba as Utilityman for the Village
of Glenboro effective April 30, 2007 at a 40-hour work week. “carried” RESOLVED
that the Council of the Village of Glenboro contract the services of Fort
Distributors of Winnipeg, Manitoba for the supply and application, in the summer
of 2007, of approximately 20,000 litres of magnesium chloride (dust control)
onto GlenTown Road, South Railway Avenue, Valmor Road, Road 81 West of the
Fairgrounds and other required streets and lanes in the Village of Glenboro at
and for the quoted price of $.24 per litre. “carried” RESOLVED that the Council of the
Village of Glenboro apply to become a member of the Assiniboine Municipal Health
Committee for 2007 and hereby authorize payment of the $100.00 membership fee
for same. “carried”
RESOLVED
that the Council of the Village of Glenboro authorize Mayor Bill Shackel,
Councillors Steve Bjornson, Robert Gudnason, Bob Jewsbury and Assistant C.A.O.
Darren Myers to attend the A.M.M. Western District Meeting in Boissevain,
Manitoba on Wednesday, June 13, 2007.
“carried” RESOLVED that the Council of the
Village of Glenboro sponsor the Glenboro UCT Bike Rodeo being held on Tuesday,
June 12, 2007 at the Glenboro School and hereby authorize a grant of $25.00 for
the purchase of a new bicycle helmet. “carried” RESOLVED that the Council of the
Village of Glenboro accept the tender submitted by Herb Marquart of Glenboro,
Manitoba for the cutting and removal of approximately 10 acres of hay around the
Glenboro Lagoon located on part of the NW ¼ of Section 10; Township 7; Range
14W, for the 2007 harvest season. “carried” Whereas
Canada has yet to properly honour, in a suitable location that is always
accessible to the public, the names of all of our fallen in wars and
peacekeeping; And Whereas over 115,000 fallen
have their graves in seventy three countries and hundreds of cemeteries; And Whereas their remains, by
law, cannot be repatriated to Canada; And Whereas we must create a
suitable national shrine to our fallen; And Whereas proper recognition
will show our gratitude and respect for their sacrifice; Therefore Be It Resolved that
the Council of the Village of Glenboro request that the Government of Canada
enact Private Members Bill C-417, the Canadian Soldiers’ and Peacekeepers’
Memorial Wall Act.
“carried” RESOLVED that the Council of the
Village of Glenboro ratify the casual employment of Jovi Foord-Kelcey of
Glenboro, Manitoba to assist the Maintenance Department with various duties and
tasks as assigned. “carried” RESOLVED that the Council of the
Village of Glenboro enter into an agreement with the Government of Manitoba, R.
M. of South Cypress, R. M. of Strathcona and R. M. of Argyle for the continued
operation of the Spruce Lakes Recreation District; AND FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED that
this agreement shall expire on March 31, 2010. “carried”
RESOLVED that the Council of the
Village of Glenboro authorize Assistant C.A.O. Darren Myers to attend the
Manitoba Municipal User Group AGM and Conference being held on Friday, June 15,
2007 in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba. “carried” RESOLVED that the Council of the
Village of Glenboro authorize the payment of fiscal year 2007 accounts from
cheque #1636 to cheque #1661 and cheque #1663 to and including cheque #1672
amounting to a total of $28,059.84 as fully detailed to Council by the Assistant
C.A.O. “carried” Prior to the presentation of
Resolution #2007-089 and the associated subject, Councillor Loren Nelson, having
a personal interest in the matter, withdrew from the Council chambers, not
returning until after the vote on said resolution.
RESOLVED that the Council of the Village of Glenboro authorize the
payment of fiscal year 2007 account/cheque #1662 amounting to $14.21 as
submitted to Council by the Assistant C.A.O. “carried” RESOLVED
that the Council of the Village of Glenboro do now adjourn at 9:50 p.m. to
convene again for the next regular meeting of Council scheduled for Tuesday,
June 12, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. “carried” |
